it looks a bit run down from outside but the sushi incredible, true Japanese. i have been to the posh places like blue ribbon etc. this is much better

Delicious food and very nice service. This is the California roll with beef teriyaki and it was spectacular.

Tipped in cash, and the waitress brought out a CALCULATOR to see if I tipped generous enough (which I did for the service) and she literally stopped me. tip is always based on pre-tax amount. Pretty shocked as I’ve never encountered that in a restaurant. I used to come here a few times a month - and now I don’t think I’ll be returning....The sushi is good but be prepared to wait 15 mins or more per dish. I’ve had a few dishes that I didn’t like in the past - such as the tempura ice cream. Just shocked at the service and treatment. Unacceptable.

This is the best purist sushi in LA. No frills, no bs - just the best fish. Chef Kino gets first pick with the fishmongers and you taste the difference. His style is simple and traditional which lets the prime fish play the starring role. My death row meal.

Great little restaurant which is well worth trying. Inside is cosy and friendly run by a lovely Japanese couple. Food is delicious. Sushi, chirashi, udon and tempura are all good, highly recommend the beef negimaki.

The fish is fantastic. Amazing flavor, prepared wonderfully, very much a stand out in an area with a lot of sushi options. The restaurant itself is a destination too, the tiny dining area is very intimate and quite authentic. They have a couple of amazing back rooms too that are a lot of fun if you book for a large group. Unfortunately, the sushi and other food can take an unbelievable amount of time to come out. I recommend not coming here if you have anywhere to be or are really hungry when you get there. It can easily take 30-45 minutes for the first thing to come out, and that is on a slow night. Prepare for an hour and a half dinner at minimum. This may actually be the slowest service I've experienced. But the quality of the food and copeous charm save this place.

I’ve never lived in LA and I’ve been coming to this place for years (12). I love it. The owners cut the fish and run the joint. Hole in the wall, in a divey sort of way. The fish, people and clientele are top notch. I love this sushi.

OMG. This sushi is the bomb. Just do omakase and let Master Kino take over. I was totally surprised to find sushi of this quality in an unassuming little shack - but the fish don't lie. I found out that Kino comes from a long line of fisherman in Japan. No wonder his fish is the best. Amazing.

SO GOOD! This is definitely my favorite sushi in LA! 4 tables and a bar so it's very cozy.

On vacay from nyc. Pulled up to grab some take out and blown away by the quality of the food. Real chill spot with minimal seating. One guy chefing up everything! Highly recommend if you enjoy great sushi!

The service was terribly slow and there's only one sushi chef. We were the only ones there and it took an hour to get our first course. A guy came in for pickup and had to wait an extra half hour for his meal because it was so slow. I felt bad for the 8 people who came in after us who had to wait for us to finish before they could even start on their orders. This place also only seats about 12 people total so I dont recommend for groups. Overall it was way too expensive for what you get and the sushi was no better quality than something you get at Ralphs.

I am not a picky person at all but when it comes to food and sushi specifically i set certain standards. Surprisingly this placed failed to meet those standards and i was highly disappointed by the quality of the food and the freshness of the fish. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else.

Cute Japanese eatery, aesthetically in the style of many eateries in Tokyo but culinarily replete with American-style sushi offerings such as the various maki.My friend and I shared: the Spicy Crunchy Tuna maki, the Spicy Yellowtail maki, the Spider Maki, and the special Halibut maki. I also had hot green tea. The Spider Maki was excellent; the others were just good.I'd go back.

The taste of the Beef was good but it wasn't worth the food poisining. Sorry!

Unexpected gem in the hart of West Hollywood. A must visit of you are craving sushi or authentic Asian cousins. We had the lunch specials. 2 items, miso soup, and salad for 16.95. Unbelievable price for an unbelievable meal. The food was fresh, friendly staff, and very cozy. Get transported out of the busy city and into this authentic restaurant.

The owner has been making sushi for decades. You can just instantly taste the quality of the sushi. I found this place by accident and I am so glad that I found this place. I’m definitely eating here again the next time I come to Japan.

Take-san doe not disappoint with his handmade traditional Japanese and fusion delights, the lobster rolls and squid in soya and butter sauce are a must. Originally from Shizuoka, Take-san emigrated to the US more than 40 years ago, he opened his Ta-Ke Sushi Restaurant on Sunset Boulevard in 2005. It's a delight to watch him prepare and serve each dish with care and precision.Having lived in Japan for more than 16 years, I can say hands-down that this is the 'must do' when in L.A. when your taste buds are screaming Japanese!Highly recommended.

Our business orders from here most Fridays. Yoyo is extremely gracious and kind and the food is always top notch. This is our favorite sushi spot around. : )

I discovered this place due to a close Japanese friend who told me that it was one of her favorite sushi places in LA and that it reminded her of typical Tokyo establishments in terms of decor, menu offerings and service. I really enjoyed it and can't wait to go back!

Great, small. Very tasty sashimi

Worsr sushi place I ever been to in my life. Took 45 minutes to get one plate with five pieces of lobster all put together badly and wasn't even lobster they scammed my husband and put shrimp which he is allergic to. The service was horrible they act like we didnt exist. Dont go to this place! The server was taking shots behind the bar as well.. So unprofessional!

This place is amazing. Authentically Japanese sushi and sashimi that is super-high quality for a very reasonable price.

In the heart of the Sunset Strip but like you were transported to a small family restaurant in Tokyo. Everything amazing here. My perfect meal: albacore sashimi, Spanish mackerel sushi, yellowtail sushi and/or sashimi and an oyster shooter. Also, great uni and eel. Kino and Yayoi are your chef and hostess and make you feel like you're eating a meal in their home. Great sake and beer options as well as delicious green tea for those who don't drink. Parking can be a little tricky here like anywhere on the Strip, but so worth it. Across the street from the Whiskey, a couple of doors down from the Viper Room and an authentic taste of Japan. Serious sushi people, you have been warned.
